YOUR WRITING, YOUR FUTURE

Contests and Events

Serial online fiction is a new, rapidly-growing publishing market that presents great opportunities for authors—but also great challenges. That's why a core part of our mission here at eGlobal is helping aspiring online novelists develop professionally and learn how to succeed in this field.

The eGlobal Creative Writing Club is a community we created to provide guidance and support for beginning writers—and for more experienced writers who are interested in new, trendy ways to publish online! Club members can chat with one another, seek peer review of their work, participate in creative writing games, and take advantage of the many writing guides and resources we have available in the club.

The club is hosted on our Discord server, which you can join via this link or the button below.

We also host a variety of writing contests and events through our Discord. Continue reading below to learn more.

Contests

eGlobal hosts regular creative writing contests through our Discord community. Submissions regularly take the form of short stories/"flash fiction" on a provided theme or topic.

All entries are read by our editors, who select the winning stories. Winners receive a cash prize and consideration for an exclusive contract to develop their work into a full novel!

The specific rules and prizes for individual contests may be found on the Discord.

Writers' Salon

Our eGlobal team seeks to actively teach and foster conversation among writers through our online discussion series, the eGlobal Writers' Salon.

The Writers' Salon is a regular schedule of hour-long talks, classes, and panel discussions on topics in creative writing and publishing. Salons are led by our senior editors and frequently feature our star authors as guests. Audience questions and participation are encouraged!

All Salon events are hosted in the Creative Writing Club server on Discord.

It’s almost Halloween, so in this month’s eGlobal Writer’s Salon, we’ll be talking to a panel of experienced writers about creatures of the night – and how to make them seem real in your stories!

Vampires, werewolves, witches, demons – these paranormal creatures bring excitement to your fiction writing, and their stories are popular all year long. Part of the thrill for your readers is escaping into a world where these unusual characters fit right in, so it’s important that all the elements of your world fit together and make sense.

Both paranormal romance and fantasy genres can have complex settings that add interest to your readers. From pack lives to covens to complex belief systems, paranormal world building can be a challenge when you’re first getting started. Join us in our Discord community to talk with experienced paranormal writers about the processes they use to bring their settings to life!

Emily will be leading a discussion on Commercial Fiction and how to write it. We think this is a particularly fascinating and useful topic, one which forces one to ask: what is your priority as a professional or aspiring-to-be professional author, and how does this affect your creative decisions?

Reader Interaction

Reader Interaction

February 12, 2021
Salon, Publishing, Marketing, Professionalism

In our conversations with authors, we often encourage you all to go on the platforms and chat with readers. And, indeed, this sort of fan engagement is an important hallmark of the web-novel model. But that doesn't mean it's easy! How do you interact with online audiences in a way that promotes your book and preserves your boundaries? How do you build a healthy and positive fan community?

This week, we will be holding our next Writer's Salon on Do's and Don't's of Reader Interaction. Our editor will share tips on how to navigate these conversations in the comment section. Come to participate in our discussion - or just to listen in!

Synopses, Titles, Covers, and Blurbs

February 2, 2021

There's truth to the old adage, "never judge a book by it's cover." But it's also true that people always have - and always will. As an author, you need to learn how to present your book in a way that will capture the attention of your target audience.

This Thursday, we will be holding our next Writer's Salon: "Synopses, Titles, Covers, and Blurbs." Our editor will share tips for how to craft these aspects of your book. Come to participate in our discussion - or just to listen in!

Reviewing and Reinvigorating Tropes

Reviewing and Reinvigorating Tropes

January 22, 2021
Salon, Creative Writing, Story Development

In our meetings with authors, we often stress the importance of tropes as a tool to connect directly with what audiences want. But we also know that a story with no spark of a unique idea, that feels wholly composed of tired old tropes, will fail to capture the imaginations and hearts of readers. So how do you balance that, as a writer? How do you harness the power of tropes while imbuing them with your own voice and creativity?

The salon is free to attend, and you do not need to prepare anything in advance. Just bring yourself and your creativity, and get excited to hear about other writers' experiences - and share your own!
